The Quakertown Community School District is partnering with the Family Service Association of Bucks County for seven Family Nights geared to help parents of elementary school students build strong relationships with their children.

Each event is scheduled for Quakertown Elementary School, 123 South Seventh Street. The first will take place on Tuesday, October 15, from 6:00-7:30 p.m. Parking is available in the Quakertown Community High School parking lot, between Fifth and Sixth streets on Park Ave.

“This is another excellent opportunity for all of our Quakertown Community School District families to learn about the local resources available to them right here in our community,” said QE Principal Dr. Michael Zackon. “When families are engaged in their children’s education, it helps their students become better learners. Ultimately, that’s what this is all about.”

Kathleen Megahan, FSA’s Family Strengthening Coordinator, agreed. “When children have a strong foundation, they have the ability to transition to school and succeed. Parents are the first and best teacher.”

The October 15 Family Night will include a special Internet Safety presentation by Network of Victim Assistance (NOVA). The free evening includes a fall craft, light snacks, and book giveaways.

More Family Nights are scheduled for November 19, December 17, January 21, February 11, March 17 and April 14.

A Woman’s Place is scheduled for the November event. Other topics include Cops and Kids; Fire Safety, Healthy Living, Parental Stress and Personal Safety.

“These are pertinent topics for parents and children today,” Ms. Megahan said. “It gives them a chance to spend more quality time together in a meaningful way.”
